The Gbemisola Alonge

I am really excited about this section of the blog cuz I get to meet people from different Universities who are doing things that they are passionate about and with each person I get to interview comes a different experience.

The just concluded REDEFINITION was as amazing as it could be and the full pictures will be coming up soon and I got the chance to interview the model of the year, the amazing and beautiful Gbemi, she is such a nice person. Despite the exam period with the many courses Economics students do, she still came through.

Gbemisola is a 19 year old Economics student at Covenant University, an aspiring model and a devoted christian.

Journey into modeling

I started modeling in 2011, before then I don't think I had any personal interest in it, I remember, it was a sunday evening my mum called me into her room and showed me an ad on a newspaper (Vanguard I think) of  a modeling competition "Ford Supermodel of the World Competition (Nigeria)", my dad was in full support and from there I gained interest. My dad bought my first sim-indus heels (black Jessica Simpson pumps). I went for the competition and came out as one of the top 20 finanlists among much older and much more experienced models. I decided to get a trainer. I was trained by a man named Brendar . I also went for the 'MTN Model of the Year' competition but I was told that I was too short. I was featured on the cover of 'Vanguard Allure' independence edition for 2011 which was too amazing but my modeling career was disturbed by my coming to cu, my parents wanted me to focus on my academics. However, Redefinition has been very helpful, I've been part of it 3times(2012, 2013,2014)

On winning the 'Model of the Year' award, the nomination process and Life After
The nomination process was OK not too tedious really, the 1st stage entailed a model (who trained us)
picking 20 girls from about 50 based on their ability to walk on the runway. The 2nd stage was a photoshoot of different themes(traditional, formal/coporate, casual and dinner), from the photoshoot, the top 10 girls were picked and based on walking on the redefinition show, I was made the winner. It felt so good, I knew I had a shot at winning but I didnt believe I was going to. I thank God for it. Nothing has really changed except for people calling me model of the year all the time but nothing has changed.

On Her Support System

My support system comprises of my parents, my friends and many other people.
Mide Wey; my personal photographer......lol he really supports me and believes in me, he calls me up for random shoots to boost my portfolio and if that is not support I dont know what is.
Ola Oriola; my number 1 fan, always makes me work and when I don't feel like i'm doing well, he encourages me to do well and work harder. My friends everywhere also contribute to my success. You, Melody for this interview have shown a lot of support.

On How she manages to maintain a high CGPA and be an outstanding model
"lol...ahh I dont know oh!!!! Modeling really doesn't take much of my school time and I try really hard to do well in school and commit everything to God. Its actually God....all God and none of me".

Maintaing Her Shape
"I dont do anything serious, I don't eat much normally so I don't gain a lot of weight when I do. I don't exercise (very bad of me). So there is no special trick on how I keep my shape, I think it is just natural"

Favourites
My family, my friends, Ola Oriola, Tobi Okonkwo. Coca-cola; thats like my best thing in the world.
I read to relax. I love Chimamanda Adichie's books and other Nigerian authors like Sefi Atta, Chinua Achube, Eghosa Imasuen and others. I also listen to MUSIC; Lana Del Ray, Ellie Goulding and others. I also love spending time with friends.

Her Definition of Christian Living
Christian Living to me is having an active relationship with God, knowing Him, loving Him, fearing Him and understanding His love for you and just acting on it. When you understand how much he loves you and act towards it. Gods love for us knows no bounds and the understanding of it alone provoke you to love him more....

"style is not just finding comfort and a niche in fashion. Knowing what to wear and what makes you comfortable physically, psychologically(looking in the mirror and feeling comfortable). It is really just having a comfortable way of dressing really." Gbemisola Alonge

Even if you dont win or try you can check out their site for really nice pieces frenchconnection.com..

Throwback Thursday

First off, I'm so sorry for not posting all these while, exams and shii but we're back now and trust me a lot has been planned out and a lot of features and interviews with a lot of people whose identity I would keep to myself for now....
One of my favourite things to do these days is to go on instagram, I really think it is very interesting and entertaining. So one of the things that make it fun are the hashtags i.e #WCW, #MCM etc and my favourite #throwbackthursday I think its fun and bold to see people upload their baby pictures.
Last week a friend of mine posted this on his instagram page and it is really different from the normal baby pictures but I loved it....

I believe everyone has one of these set of people or even all but we are still alive right, we still cope and we pray to God not to come in contact with more of these kind of people. I have learnt to cope with having such people surround me and even though it has made me a bit conscious who I open up to, I still have move on with life as though it never happened and you should too and everyday I wake up and bless them for making me stronger and wiser....

WHITE; the new black..

Yep I said it White is the new black and no I do not have a problem with colors. You know how they say black is so universal and all the craze of having a little black dress commonly called the LBD, but with the evolution in the fashion industry these days, White is watsup now. I mean don't get me wrong I love black its convenient and you can't be worried about it getting stained but these days SAFE  would never cut it.
But I know how hard it is to try on new things, there is really no rush to these things you can try out just altering just one part of your outfit. Like a little with dress and you can use other colors of accessories like Miss Shirley Beniang of www.meekandmild.com

Or switch up your shoe game a little and go white!!!! trust me its the right way to go.....

My all-time favorite the white blazer!!!!!

Or the bag....

White skinnies!!!! trust me you won't regret it..

                                All White

LOVE......

I stumbled upon this picture while I was on twitter and it almost brought me to tears (for real) and I was stunned at the simplicity, innocence and beauty of the writers imagination and the best part is that the writer is just six years old.
This just made me ask myself a series of questions and one of them was 'Melody what is your definition of Love'. Being honest I realised that I didnt have an understanding of what LOVE really is, that is because any idea I think I had of Love was wordily. Prior to coming across this picture I'm not sure if I had ever viewed Love this way . I've always seen it as something deep and intense and you something had to give your everything to. This picture just made Love seem easy and not as stressful and its not like there wont be times where you wont feel like giving up but Love is meant to always stand the test of time and pressure, its that strong.
So these are my newly and improved definitions of Love that I have chosen to adopt
•Love is willing to get hurt.
•Love gives and expects nothing in return
                •Love lives in our hearts
                •It means the world.
                •Love is worth it.
•Love is always ready to sacrifice.
I look at all these definitions and do I think I can really do this and I can think of only person that can love like this and even much more and His name is GOD and I will ask him for the grace to be like him and love hard like him.

With love from Sola Komolafe

Adorable virtuous woman, blessed are thou among women of the earth. Jeremiah 29:11 says "for I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Your heavenly fatherGOD ALMIGHTY is very interested in your success in this ongoing examination , and He has packaged for you ('JESUS' the word) for the success of your examination. So when you are about to study for a particular course declare these words of God to yourself; having the confidence that he who has begun a good work in you he shall perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. (Isaiah 11;2-4, Psalm119:97-100, Philipians 4:13, Proverbs 3:5, Nehemiah 8:10, Psalm 82:6). Remember what you declare is what you see and become, be smart and take divine success tablets from God to you. GOD BLESS, STRENGTHEN, PROSPER, GUIDE, GUARD AND FAVOR YOU all the days of you life in the MIGHTY NAME OF JESUS.
                                                                                                           xo...........Sola

WEAR NIGERIAN

IRO ati BUBA
I remember when Iro and Buba were only used by the Yoruba women then it graduated to being worn for weddings as aso-ebi and so on but now Iro and buba is undoubtedly the biggest trend in Nigeria so far. The year 2014 has been a comeback for Iro and buba. This year alone more people have worn Iro and buba more than it has ever been worn. I mean to weddings, events, red carpets, occasions, dinner etc. From babies to adults to old fashionistas it is everywhere.
    No matter how much people complain about how its getting random, I don't see it leaving the fashion scene anytime soon. Its a double win its comfortable and elegant so why Not? Its going to be here for a long while. A lot of designers are buying into that que and making a lot of ready to wear Iro and buba pieces. Best part is that there are no restrictions, you can mix and match and wear with anything. If you are not comfortable with the complete iro and buba, you can switch it up and nobody has to know (;

Here are some of my favourite pieces

In the spirit of the Exam period

Not many people are writing exams ATM but at one point or the other we would be in a position were we would need to write one exam or the other. And I'm not sure about everybody but Exam periods for me are quite stressful and we could get to a point were we may loose our faith and start doubting our abilities and we could convince ourselves all day that it is normal but it really shouldn't be and a clear picture of who we are and who our Father is will help remove our doubts and fear.
I believe the Bible has something to say about everything and every season, including the exams season and here are some that I got this evening
1. Proverbs 3:5- 'Lean on, trust in and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding'
2. 2Timothy2:15- 'Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved, a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing the Word of truth.
3.  Exodus 33:17- 'For my presence shall go with you and I will see you through the journey to the very end'

Never doubt yourself, you carry divine genes that makes it impossible for you to fail as long as you WORK for it .........xo
               The Jumpsuit Craze.....
Jumpsuits have moved from being just ordinary black, it now comes in different colors and prints and its so amazing cuz anybody can wear a jumpsuit, matter of fact everybody should have a jumpsuit. In this day and age its literarily forbidden not to have a jumpsuit, i mean my grandma has one. The best part is that there are different types, there are the form fitting ones, the loose ones, the free-legged ones and they are soooo comfortable and now almost every collection these days have at least a jumpsuit piece in their collection. You can wear it anywhere to cocktails, weddings, events. Celebrities like Queen Bey and a host of others have been spotted rocking them on the red carpet and they are good for all seasons, hoe cool is that?
                In prints; we love prints....
for sika designs

from krazy couture
The mordern and fresh type of jumpsuit
for  AW2013 Mi LE collection
For Chuwee and Phummy boutique

Jumpsuits are for everybody shape just know the type to buy and you will be just fine .
CURVY; not everybody can be stick thin but if you are proud of your curves and you are like Kim Kardashian and you have nothing to loose, invest in Jumpsuits!!!!!. If you are smaller on the top and bigger below, you may want accentuate your small waist with a not too big but loose jumpsuit that brings attention to your waist. Stay away from tight or fitted jumpsuits.
SKINNY OR NOT SO SKINNY; like Miss Ezinne Akudo, you are free to wear whichever one but try not to buy the very loose jumpsuits as you may look lost in it. Stick to the fitting ones as your body shape is not consumed in it.  Miss Nigeria is wearing a Rukky Simone cobalt blue Jumpsuit.
